I give beige walls 6 more months

I used to think beige was neutral.
Then I watched three clients in a row ask for “the exact same beige,” and I realized neutral is just a trend that’s been around long enough to stop announcing itself.
Nobody picks beige because they love beige.
They pick it because it’s the safest bet in a room full of people who might judge their choices.
That’s not a color decision.
That’s a risk management decision wearing a paint swatch.
Trends don’t die because people get tired of the color.
They die because people get tired of what the color has come to mean.
Right now, beige means “I looked this up before deciding.”
Give it a few years, and it’ll mean “I was too scared to pick anything else.”
Same wall. Different verdict.
I’ve seen this cycle before, just with different names….
Grey killed off warm wood tones.
Beige is quietly killing off grey.
Something else is already lining up to kill off beige, and it’s probably already trending somewhere you haven’t scrolled to yet.
None of this is really about color.
It’s about how long a room can stay “safe” before safe starts to look like nothing was decided at all.
So here’s my prediction, and I’ll happily be wrong.
Six months, maybe less, and beige stops being the answer and starts being the thing people apologize for in their own homes.
The paint will still be on the wall.
It’s the confidence that runs out first.
