Quick Styling Tricks for the 20 Minutes Before Guests Actually Arrive

Twenty minutes isn’t enough time to decorate a room. It’s enough time to fix the five things that actually matter!!
Clear one surface completely. Not tidy it, clear it. Whatever flat surface guests will see first, a console, a coffee table, sweep it bare in under a minute. An empty surface reads as intentional. A cluttered one reads as unfinished, no matter how nice everything else looks.
Fix the entry first, not the living room. Guests judge a home in the first few seconds at the door. A quick wipe of the entryway, shoes put away, one small styled object, does more than five extra minutes spent elsewhere.
Turn on warm light, turn off overhead light. This is the single fastest atmosphere change available. A lamp or a few diyas replacing a bright ceiling light changes how a whole room feels in about ten seconds.
Fluff and straighten, don’t rearrange. Cushions plumped, throws straightened, chairs pushed in. This is the fastest visual reset in the house and takes almost no real time.
Light one scent source. A single incense stick or diffuser near the entry does more for how a home feels than most people expect, and it’s genuinely a thirty second task.
None of this is deep cleaning or real styling. It’s just noticing what a guest actually sees in their first minute, and spending your twenty minutes exactly there!!! Journalising Designers Esha Bhandari
